On Tuesday, Belgian police shot dead a man who had opened fire on a group of Swedes in the city of Brussels, killing two and injuring another. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning near the Place de la Bourse, a popular tourist spot in the city centre.
The attacker was identified as a 25-year-old man from Morocco who had been living in Belgium for several years. He was armed with an automatic weapon and opened fire on a group of Swedish tourists who were visiting the city. Two of them were killed and one was injured before police arrived at the scene and shot him dead.
The motive for the attack is still unclear but Belgian authorities have said that it appears to be an act of terrorism. The attacker had reportedly shouted "Allahu Akbar" (God is great) before opening fire, leading to speculation that he may have been inspired by Islamic extremism. However, no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack and it is not known if he had any links to any terrorist organisations.
The incident has sent shockwaves through Brussels and Sweden, with both countries expressing their condolences to those affected by the attack. The Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven said that his country would do everything it could to support those affected by this "horrific act". He also called on people to remain vigilant against terrorism but stressed that Sweden would not be intimidated by such acts of violence.
In Hong Kong, police have increased security around tourist spots following news of the shooting in Brussels. They have urged people to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity they may witness or hear about. They also warned people not to spread rumours or false information about terrorist attacks as this could cause unnecessary panic among citizens.
